    Default Palm Warbler

    Attached Images Attached Images

This photo of a palm warbler was taken with a Canon 50D, a Canon 400mm f/5.6 lens

    Exposure was 1/200 @f/5.6 and ISO 400.

I have a couple of questions, but would welcome comments on other features as well.

Does the leaf need to go?
Did I successfully correct for a blue color cast without creating another problem?

Thanks in advance for any and all comments and suggestions.

I would keep the leaf and try to selectively sharpen it. I'll leave the "color cast" solution to the experts, though it looks a bit purplish on my monitor. I would crop a bit from the left and from the bottom. I really like the texture of the bark and the positioning of the bird. And I like the image a lot. Very nice . . .

    Kent,

I would remove the leaf, others might not.

Great HA and cool open beak, beautiful bird with great colors. Not sure about the color-cast thing, what was the blue origin (higher color temperatures) If so, did you adjust white balance?

Was the light mixed, looks from the side which can produce uneven exposure points (shadows/hot spots). Maybe some fill flash would be an option. Nice find, cool bird.

HI Kent - I would leave the leaf, Like the open beak pose and the HA with eye contact. Feels just a tad tight for my personal tastes, and would run some NR on the background.
Colour looks good on my screen.

    Keep them coming :)

Not necessarily, but I do find it a wee bit distracting. If I went after that (and I did) I would also cover the
    chipped spots.

I don't see any blue cast, so you evidently got that. But it does look a bit reddish to me, so I adjusted toward cyan. Also adjusted levels and opened the shadow details on the bird a little.

Nice shot. I like it. Keep on truckin'! ;)

    Great re post David !!!

Leaf wise it does compete for attention and would lower the bird in frame ... he is sort of looking up a little bit so would like extra space up top !! ... did well at 1/200 sec !! under same circumstance would increase ISO !!!

Nice image, Kent. Good advice already given and great repost by David. Personally I don't mind the leaf. Like the DOF and bark texture. Agree that it could use some more space up top.

Your comments and suggestions are very helpful, as always. I think I'll lose the leaf, since it is out of focus and the more I look the more distracting I find it. I'll also try to reproduce what David did. And give a little more space on the top. And some NR on the BG.

Thanks so much to all. You guys are the best!

    Hi Kent,
The leaf does not bother me...Dave's repost takes it over the top...
