I just got back to Quito after another few weeks out in the field. One of my stops was the Mindo Loma reserve - a fantastic destination for nature photographers. The place has some of the only fruit feeders in Ecuador that actually have good activity and I was able to photograph quite a few species there. Additionally the sons of the owners (boris and Patricio) are both also photographers, excellent bird guides and cool guys. They helped me getting shots of both Hoary Puffleg and Toucan Barbet. Thanks guys!

But I had to post this guy first. If this is not a beautiful bird then I just don't know what is???

    Camera Model: Canon EOS 50D
    Shutter speed: 1/30 sec
    Aperture: 6.3
    Flash: On - fill
    ISO: 400
    Focal length: 500mm + 1.4x

I also just posted a batch of new photos and new travel journal if anyone is interested - http://www.glennbartley.com/natureph...y/ecuador.html

    Cheers!

Lovely light, colours, pose, perch and BG , Glenn. A very subtle corner burn may be an option. Sounds like you're having great time

definitely one of the more colorful tanagers in Ecuador
great pose, BG, colors - one minor suggestion might be to fixup multiple catch lights in the eye

glad you got to meet boris and found the Hoary Puffleg

    enjoy the Amazon

As above. My favorite part of the bird is the yellow crown.

That bird is like a painter's dream, Such beautiful colors and the neat perch and BG make a great backdrop for his beauty.

Lovely pose, with good exposure on the colours. This is sharp, and love the detail on the perch, and I like the BG in this too.
