Good exposure on the blacks, considering the light was from the front. I like the colours on him too. Well captured.

    Filomena:

Very colorful fellow. Sharp, well exposed, head turned back towards us just a touch, nice background, all good.

I might darken the perch in the lower left corner, it is a bit bright and draws the attention. Alternately you could crop up just enough to eliminate it, but the composition gets a bit crowded then.

If you have a bit more canvas to the left, I would include that.

In a perfect world, I wish the perch didn't go behind the tail, but thats minor!

    Thanks guys,

Randy, I didn't even notice the perch behind the tail. You are right. It sure is nice to have another eye to critique. I just did a mild crop and sharpen. Not skilled enough at photoshop to attempt to remove the perch by the tail. I will have to practice on rainy days.

    Thanks,

    Fil

Welcome to BPN Filomena! Lovely subject, pose, and BG. Perch, not so much Good comments from above. The one factor that makes this image not as good as it could be, is the light direction. This image would be ten times better if the sun was behind your back. Just something to remeber next time. Also the head appears just a tad soft, it looks like the focus was more on the wing than the eye.

    Keep them coming!

    Filomena:

Be sure to post all the technicals, in this case, the aperture would have helped us evaluate your DOF choices.

Aidan made a good point about the light angle. By all means, shoot whenever you can for practice, but in most cases your best photos will come when the light is really working for you.
