    Default Goose ID help

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Good afternoon all>

Was at the local bird sanctuary today for a walk with my daughter. Spotted this fellow, not sure what it is? Although somewhat similar to a Canada goose, the face looks more like a barnacle goose?

    Any help appreciated.

Sorry for the poor photo. Didn't have my regular gear, plus in a hurry!

    Thanks

    Randy

Hi Randy, My guess is a leucistic Canada Goose. Barnacle Goose would be blue/gray and black. I have seen leucistic CG here in CA also.

Hi Randy. This is most likely a Canada Goose. Giant Canada Geese (which would be your resident Canada geese in Michigan) can have varying amounts of white on the head. While this is not common, I have seen photos of a number of such geese here in MN. Not sure what causes this - maybe just genetic variation.
