    Default Black Oystercatcher

From a mid-April trip to Oregon. These birds are usually seen on the shoreline rocks where they forage, but occasionally they will venture onto the sandy beach. At this time the birds were paired, territorial, and engaging in courtship displays. 40D, 300 f/4 + 1.4X, 1/2500, f/6.3, ISO 400. Nearly full frame. I did not add saturation to the red beak. Comments are welcome.

Very nice exposure, Steve, blacks do not look blocked and bill's red not overdone. I like the pose aand placement in the frame.
Were you able to get any of the display?

Hi Fabs. I did photograph some of the displays and will post some of those images in the near future. Often, both birds take part in the displays and, as you can imagine, it was difficult to get good focus and head angles on both at once. These are interesting birds and I'd like to spend more time working with them. :)

Steve, stunning light and exposure, and love the feather detail on him. Low angle works well, and I like the pastel colour of the BG. Great image.
