Default Skimmer v. Mute Swans in Maryland

Interesting article, the state considers killing invasive mute swans to protect wetlands and endangered shorebirds.

I hope they come up with an alternate plan.

I'd have to say I'm with the Maryland DNR on this one. Mute swans are an exotic species in this country and cause problems wherever they are found. For years, they have been shot on sight here in Minnesota (we have only a handful - not like MD) while at the same time the state has been successfully reintroducing native trumpeter swans. An emotional and controversial issue to be sure.
