I was impressed with Steve's image of his daughter so I thought I would post an image of my daughter I made a little while ago with the then newly acquired 85 mm f1.2 L. I love the way the lens renders colours.

The coffee was a good cappuccino made on the Simonelli at home and yes that's an engagement ring! Dad will be the photographer.

    Canon EOS 5D, 85 mm f1.2 L II

    ISO speed: 200
    shutter speed: 1/400
    aperture: f1.2
    exposure bias: +0.0

    flash: OFF

    John,

I think this is a fabulous image--I like that the eyes are tack sharp--but the cup is in much softer focus.

Incredible eyes! I like the soft vignette you used on the image as well. Congrats to her on the engagement!

Lovely colours, skin tones, and sharpness. Must be quite a lens. Beautiful image. Can't wait to see some wedding photos:) (OK maybe not too many)

Yes...the eyes have it! I like the way the cup, by covering her mouth, puts all the focus on her eyes. I think she would be beautiful with any lens, but the selective focus here is great. That is a lens I would like...add it to the list. I think this would make a really good B&W conversion, too.

Good thought Steve. I'll try a BW version. And if I didn't say so for before I was really taken with the image you posted of your daughter. Just lovely.

Thanks so much, John. We are both very lucky fathers, IMO.

John her eyes are amazing, like the eyes of the famous afgan girl that Steve Mccurry portrayed for National Magazine, probably one of the most famous portrays ever done :) With such beautiful eyes and a father that loves photography I am sure that she would have tons on portraits ;)
