Steve, the comp works well, and good timing to capture the flapping posture. I like the colours on this guy, together with his lovely red eye. I think the colour of the water actually compliments the Teal.
Very nice unusual duck photo. You are right about the sharpness, the head is sharp
and the blur on the wings actually makes a good feel of motion. The water BG is just excellent,
complements the colors of the bird very well.
I only wish you had a lower angle. Low on the water I think would make this image superb.
I like the wing flap and soft light. I have never seen this species and am wondering whether the whites have a blueish cast in real life or if the color temperature could be adjusted.
Sweet looking duck!
Very nice crop and presentation Steven. I also wonder about the blueish cast.
Steve -
These fellows are usually seen slowly swimming away or flying up from a quick flush. It is a good capture of a duck that usually makes any capture at all difficult.
Knowing this bird well I believe the bluish cast may be accented here by the way the light is hitting wet wings. The dull or pale blue is normal on both male and female when not in breeding colors so I would assume this is a young bird.
Thanks for the look and the comments. I assume the bluish cast that some are seeing is the patch on the backside of the far wing. If so, that was the actual color. I'd never seen one with open wings before so I was surprised to see that on the screen as well.
