Audio used to call it in. It landed on the wrong perch though (a little too thick for my taste, but still not too bad). This guy came right in right away, no hesitation, but also left pretty fast as it caught on to the game very quick. It's yellow plumage is getting prettier as the season moves on...still not quite prime-time yet but getting there:cool: Some may not like the stuff at right, but I like the balance it offers to the comp.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, 1/250s., f/6.3, ISO 640, +1.3 EC, natural light, handheld, slight crop for composition, desat the yellow channel to avoid clipping.

Great pose, perch and BG, Dan. Stuff on the right looks OK but I would probably try and lighten the dark areas within it a bit as I find the parallel dark lines grab the eye a bit. Wondering whether a slightly warmer version is an option as whites seem to have a hint of cyan.

I like the image. Shot a few in the past and know how skiddish they are.

I would suggest another crop for this shot though. See attached. Just an alternative to what you show.

I think it gives a little more power to the subject.

    Nice post as it though.

I like the soft light, pose and details. I like the crop but would remove the OOF branch on the right and sharpen the perch a bit less.

I like the pose on the bird, color, details...I like the crop, seems right. I'm learning to much cropping leads to noise and softness....

    Daniel:

You have probably gathered from the 82 goldfinches that I have posted, I am rather fond of them!

I prefer the original crop. I am good with the lower right corner, but agree with Tony that the double dark lines do stand out, might try to soften that effect. The yellowish color does act as a balance for the bird for me too.

A also agree with Axel's assesment of the perch sharpness. For me, because it is a little big for this bird, you might want to play it down just a bit. It has character, but you don't want that to distract from the bird, IMHO.

I like the birds wide, spread legged pose. He really looks like he is poised to blast off at a moments notice!

    Thanks for sharing.

Daniel, super comp, and I like the well exposed yellow's on the finch. This is sharp, and stands out well against the BG. I find the grass a bit distracting on the RHS.

    Hola Daniel!

A very nice new species for me, thanks for sharing it. Lovely in all respects, I only wish the perch would be thinner but it is what it is.
