    Default Singing!

This Winter Wren caught my attention over the noise of clearing a home site - chainsaw, tractor, chipper and on site sawmill! There guys can belt it out. The pair were very happy to use the log and brush piles to feed in between song fests!! Last week in Hyde Park, VT. 1dmk3 on 500f4 w/1.4 tele, 1/125, AV at f6.3, +2/3 EC, AIservo, hand held. Bob

    Bob:

Very nice capture of this little guy. He is really putting his heart into it. Like the open mouth and tail up.
    Nice exposure.

Although The perch isn't ideal (too big and cut off) it is cropped so it doesn't intrude much.

My only serious comment would be that the head/eye isn't quite as sharp as I would like. Perhaps another round of USM.

Remarkable to be able to hand hold that rig. You didn't mention the ISO, but if you had the room, I would have pushed it up a bit to give yourself more SS to work with.

    Cheers

    Randy

I think hand holding here and movement of the bird didnt help here somewhat with a slow shutter speed.
But I think another round of sharpening as Randy suggested would help a great deal. Lovely head angle, pose and BG!

Terrific singing pose. This was shot at ISO 800, and on a Mark III, I would have pushed ISO to 1250 or even 1600 to get the necessary shutter speed. At 1/125, it's pure luck whether you're going to get a sharp image at 700mm. I always prefer noise to blur. The good news is that this image will look great with some additional sharpening.

Thanks guys, I should have bumped the ISO - The light was fading in and out on a cloudy late afternoon and I felt that AV would help - BUT I would rather be under exposed in Manual and know what SS I am at. Back in VT next week - hoping he is still singing!!! Bob

Lovely pose, and well timed to capture the open beak. Yep, I think your ss let you down here. I always say your ss should be at least 1.5 x greater than your FL. As soon as its the other way around, you on a hiding. BTW, great BG Bob.

I like the singing pose and complementing BG. The bird looks a bit soft as presented.

Hi Bob, absolutely love this singing pose.....just wonderful.
Agreed a bit soft, but it takes some selective sharpening quite well.
Also toned down some highlight and bg noise reduction....whatcha think?

BTW, don't be working too hard on the VT property!!
