    Default TANGRAM: COMPOSITION EXERCISES II

    Here's the tangram:
The tangram (Chinese: 七巧板; pinyin: qī qiǎo bǎn; literally "seven boards of skill") is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape (given only in outline or silhouette) using all seven pieces, which may not overlap.

We want to do two different compositions using one or more of the shapes.

    FORMAL (Orderly, balanced)
    INFORMAL (Relaxed, playful)

You can do one or both. Please use only black, white or shades of gray.
Texture or gradients nay be used.

Thanks Fabs for another composition exercise, this should be fun!

To make it easier to play with I've created a PSD file with a layer for each shape and a background and uploaded it to Rapidshare. Anyone who wants it can download it from http://rapidshare.com/files/231574031/Tangram.psd

Please let me know if there's any problem with the link or file.

Don't know if I'm on the right track here, but made a dog. Next one I don't plan to use all the squares.

Jackie, the dog looks great. I had something different in mind though, just have not had time to try some myself.
They should be abstract compositions, like the exercise before. We are just introducing new shapes and give you the freedom to convey your message in a formal and informal manner.
    Hope this helps :)

This one should be pretty obvious even without the title...

Jackie, I still like your dog alot-very creative!
Don, Your first one is nice but your second one I love!!! The gradient really adds to the composition.

You guys did pretty good, that is exactly the idea, and they do not have to "be anything" but a pleasant arrangement of elements :)

Not sure if this is okay-but was very relaxed while doing it.:)Which is hard for me!! I was feeling the black and white so I stayed with it.
