I was photographing some ducks and geese at a nearby suburban lake and a pair of THESE walked up. I had never seen them around before and I couldn't stop staring at them as they looked like a cross between a goose and a buzzard!
Bill- The wild-type Muscovy Duck is metalic black with a white wing patch and red wattles. I would imagine the white ones are the result of interbreeding with barnyard ducks.
Here's a full body view of the female (if I am remembering correctly, the male was almost coal black and the female was more bronze in color.) What I'm wondering is why would they be in a suburban lake in the middle of Kansas City, Missouri? I've lived here all my life and never seen them at any lake before. Spring migration maybe?
