For starters, I hope my identification is correct. He was really tiny.

I would have liked a lower angle....but it was too swampy for me to go down further.

    technical details:
    40d with 300 f/4 non-is and 1.4x. 1/800 seconds. f/8. iso 400. exposure comp +1/3rd. flash comp -1 2/3rd. almost full-frame. minor

I think I should have stopped down further to get more of teh bird sharp. Is the use of flash apparent? Should I have dialed in even less flash comp? The sun was overhead.

All comments welcome and appreciated. Thanks in advance

A little tight for my taste. Flash looks good, I like the pose and eye contact

Doesn't look too tight to me. Good exposure, and flash use looks good too. Could use a slight boost in contrast to make the image pop (looks a little flat).

I think I should have stopped down further to get more of teh bird sharp.
Looks good as is, the bird is perfectly sharp where it counts...the DOF not reaching the tail and far leg is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.

If you are OK with it I would eliminate the smallish diagonal OOF dark strand near the chest and even darker one under the belly near the leg.

I like the pose and eye contact. Another vote for more contrast and an even lower angle might have helped. I guess you would have needed to change clothes after that, though. :)
