This was taken a couple weeks ago (at 8 AM), after a long period of nest building had taken place. Some adjustments were made, but no crop. I did clone out a blurred branch in the upper left corner and used Elements' brightness/contrast on the eye and on the beak.

Nice pose Wendell, and looks very sharp. I would add a bit more canvas to the right. Just some harsh light you were dealing with here. Soft light and the image would have been really nice:)

8 am. i wonder if it's harsh light or just overexposed. i think the exposure comp should be in the area of -0.7EV? decent light angle and cool landing pose. nice capture, wendell. you may be able to recover the blown highlights, but i think it will be difficult here.

Just the head area is a little over but the wings sure look good !!

btw this is one of the cases in which manual metering is more efficient. With Av you will have a great variation as the bird is larger in frame ... meter will open to compensate but bird is in the same light.

I like the pose and timing .. plus you sure came up with one good looking bird !!!

    Hi Wendell,
I like the landing pose with the spread wings...I like the details in the under wings and you have a super sharp clear eye...agree with Lady Jackie on adding a tad of canvas to the right side of the frame...you did quite well dealing with the very harsh light...looking forward to the next one...

Wendell, very nice pose! As was already pointed out, using negative exposure compensation or switching to manual mode would help deal with the harsh light. Still a very nice image though!
