They may be captive, but they sure were hard to resist. Alligator Farm last weekend.

Love the photo. I took the liberty of adjusting the black point to make the blacks a little darker. During the edit, I noticed that there is a sliver of white at the bottom of the image on the left. Looks like you rotated the crop a little.
Doug,
Interesting, the original started much darker, and I adjusted past the point you picked to be sure some texture was showing, which of course yours does. I think I was worried that the image might show up too dark when posted, and on other monitors. Thanks for offering the comparison, good food for thought.
On that LL sliver, I will have to do some detective work, as I did not rotate the image, so not sure how I introduced this in the crop, but I obviously did.
Could be a difference between monitors Al. I adjusted the gamma on my levels adjustment layer until I could see detail in all of the blacks. I'm also working in a dark room.
I like the original (lighter) version more. So this how you place the Crowned Crane head in good composition without cutting off the feather. Thanks for sharing good example.
Dick... I like the color contrasts with the bird and the background. Great shot. A bonus was that you got to be in the shade when you took the photo! :)
