Finally got the computer running after reinstalling operating system, what a pain but good to be finally able to work on some images from the Alligator Farm last weekend with Fabs and Alfred -- what great teachers and fun to spend time with. Thanks.

    Taken 5/3/09, Canon 50D, 500mm f/4, ISO 800, 1/200, f/4.0, no flash, GITZO and Mongoose.

Glad you got the computer sorted out Dick Re-installing all is no fun !!!

Excellent crop and sweet bg !! The little head tilt toward the camera and fluffed feathers make it special !! Big Congrats on this one !!

Outstanding image Dick. The details in the plumage is great. The catchlight is also very pleasing. Overall this is a great picture.

Hi Dick - Do your self a favour - get yourself a copy of Acronis Trueimage - takes all the hassles out of reinstalling . You install it and when you have the computer setup exactly the way you want it - you make a image - then you setup a secure zone on your hard drive - the image goes into there and at bootup you can press f11 to restore your computer to its virgin state.
I then do incremental backups of email and the likes to restore as well.

Its great - takes about 15min to restore a full restore with all your programs and settings already there.
Love in your face crop - excellent details - well done :)

Lovely bird, lovely image, great sharpness. The image could have been a bit stronger if the bird turned its head a bit more towards you or, even better, if you could have taken perhaps a half-step to your left. This would have given a better angle to the head, and more importantly, moved the greyish area to the left side of the frame where it would have better balanced the COMP.

And yes, Al and Fabs are personable, excellent teachers.

Thanks to all for your comments. This was first outing after receiving the 500mm f/4, and it was a joy to use.

I like this one a lot Dick! Love the ruffled feathers with the sun shining through them. Nice eye contact and sharpness. About the only thing I'd like is a bit more canvas at the bottom of the frame.

Good details, hairdo and soft light. I agree with Doug regarding more canvas at the bottom and would run NR on the BG.

Excellent detail in the ruffled feathers and perfect DOF. Agree on more canvas at bottom to balance the top of the image. Proud of you!!!!!

Amazingly sharp, and love the breeding colours in this. I like the curve formed by the neck.
