There are two endemic New Zealand terns which can be seen in New Zealand's South Island.
This is the smaller of the two the Black-fronted Tern.

Nice to capture a flight image of this pretty bird Ian. This looks like a heavy crop and is quite soft. There is a loss of detail in the highlights on top of the near wind and little shadow detail on the body and head. It is a challenging exposure situation - what did you spot meter off? It depends on how much data there is in the original image as to whether any more detail is recoverable

These days I just leave the camera set on Spot Metering so presumably the camera measures from about the middle of the image if bird in centre of the frame.
I love trying to get flight pictures of these neat little terns.
Yes it was a fairly substantial crop.
