Here is an Eastern Screech Owl, Reddish Phase, that nests in my Owl House in the backyard. I have had a pair nesting in the Owl house for the past 6 years. Two years were Gray Phase and the last four years have been Reddish Phase.

    C&C welcome

    Dave:

Great eye contact! Lovely colors in the owl. Like the toes/talons sticking out. The face looks sharp.

I might selectively lighten the owl, to get him to separate a bit from the shadows and next box.

Thanks so much for sharing. Always like the owls.

    Dave:

This is a quick example of what I was talking about. I tried not to over do it and make it look fake.

I also cropped a bit, as I didn't think the top of the frame added much to the image.

Thanks again for sharing this fellow.

Now the original picture has disappeared? Wonder what happened? If you plan to do a repost, be sure to leave the original, so later viewers can see where you came from.

I am seeing the ORIG. Love the bird and the sharpness. Good jub by Randy with the repost. It is tight by necessity; my big wish would be that they were nesting in a natural cavity.

Did you know that you can create a nest from an old tree and put it up in place of the box or put a natural facing on the box? Do that and I would visit

I wouldn't mind having one of those around here. I like the inquisitive look and would sharpen the feet some more.

Terrific eye contact with very nice light. Good to have them in your yard, I'm sure you can catch a lot of them :)

How is that frown on his face. Love the detail captured here, and nice and sharp. Having been with you for six years, have they accepted you, and are they tame to you?

    Stuart:

They have accepted me, but they are not tame.. I can walk right under the nest box, which is about 15 feet up on a metal 3" pipe and they will sit there and look at me. It is really neat to walk around the pole and watch their head follow me as I move.. One thing kinda surprises me though and that is the fact that they will sit in the opening with the full sun directly on them. Sometimes they will sit there for an hour or two, just watching the birds at the bird feeders. I'm not sure, but I think that there must be a new hatch of babies in the nest box. I am going to try Artie's suggestion, after the owls leave, and put a tree bark front on the nesting box..
