    Default Y-H Blackbird

Went out a few weekends ago to check up on the spot where these Yellow-headed blackbirds nest every spring.
Found about a half dozen rowdy males flying about and calling in that strange way they do.

    Exposure: 1/1250
    Aperture: f/5.6
    Focal Length: 700 mm
    ISO Speed: 320
    Exposure Bias: -2/3 EV
    Flash: No Flash

    Thanks for looking.

    Hi Paul,
Lovely shot. I didn't know that they had white in their wing like that. I like the composition and sharpness as well. Did you get this one in the Vancouver area?

Hi Steve, thanks for the comments.
Yes, Iona Beach (right next to the airport in Richmond) is one of the designated protected habitats for this species.

Nice placement of the bird within the frame. I don't mind the two stems at right, but I'm not so sure about the OOF one in the BG. Another round of USM would do this image good for web presentation. Nice colours and light, and I like the ruffed back feathers.

Well composed with a sweet BG I might be tempted to remove the OOF Cattail behind the bird

Nice bird, good pose. I like the BG color and the cattails. Agree it could use a bit more sharpening.

You have exposed the colours on the bird very well, and like the pose. Im not too keen on the two reeds through the tail, and agree another round of sharpening would work.

    Thanks for the comments all.
I should have given the bird another round of sharpening, I never noticed before.

Dont mind in the in-focus stems, but would prefer the out-of-focus one to be removed.
Might be my laptop screen, but the head looks a tad soft.
    Like the composition and colours.
