These guys are scavangers. They will hang around carcasses, either on the ground, or in trees. They are fairly large birds, with a face, only a mother could love.
I am surprized at the sharpness I attained with my slow ss. I remember it was late afternoon, and
    The light wasnt that great.

Nice to see one up in a tree, Stuart. Shows the whitewashed legs well - not the nicest cooling mechanism! Nice pose with open bill. Looks a little tight in the frame and opening up the aperture may have gained SS and blurred out the BG a little more.

Good angle, details and soft light, I also like the BG. I agree that it is a bit tight in the frame, especially top and bottom.

Love the pose, details and colors as well as the BG in this one. Agree on more room top and bottom.

I just photographed one in captivity this week-end, so great to see them in the wild!
I like ethe head angle and pose and the BG is what it is. Tightness has been mentioned.

Well, 1/250s. at 285mm focal lenght is no sweat with this IS lens and proper handholding technique :-) Did you gaussian blur the BG? It just doesn't look characteristic to the 1-4...

I agree with tightness in the frame, but i like the pose you got. This fella looks rather happy considering the task it has in hand.

You almost made him look handsome! Nice head angle and eye contact. I like the tiny perch and the BG. A little more room up top would be nice but I like this one as presented.

Ugly arent they! Like the image Stu, but dont like the BG - looks unnaturally blurred.
    Pose is great!
