Lighten face a bit, lighten iris, then sharpen the whole image.

Trying to get use to TC. The image was taken inside a large bird cage and the light was pretty bad, but still fun nontheless. What do you think, is the cutting off of the feathers at the top still alright for this type of image? All comments and suggestions are welcome.

I would prefer to see all of the head feathers...I like the BG except for the white area by the neck. They are really a neat looking bird.

Did real well here and particularly like you got the ISO high enough to give you a chance at sharpness !!! The combo is capable of razor sharp results .. might want to take a monopod if you are allowed !!

Curious as to the histogram ... was it under just a bit? For these I like using some fill flash to lighten the face and obtain a catch light.

I like the copmposition, image and capture...the color rendition is good, I would open up the eye just a tad and selective sharpen it...looking forward to your next one...

Hi - Have to say I would prefer to see all the head feathers as well as it is such a integral part of your subject.
Like the mood - is it a litte bit soft??? Have that combo myslef and it is as AL says Razor Sharp.
    Looking forward to more :)

Thank you all for the comments.

The original image was indeed under a bit. The gray area between the beak and the eye was no more than 50 and the white area behind the eye was around 190 max. I didn't want to blow too much of the highlight in the background so the bird came out under, but as Alfred said, flash would help in these situation. Now I should learn how to use flash, barely use it before.

If I don't cut off the feather at the top then the bird's head would came out quite low in composition. I should probably step back or took the picture vertically rather than horizontally.

The image was a bit sharper before reduce quality to be under 200k.
