Didn't get many landscape shots in Kenya, at least with the wide angle. They don't let you out of the vehicle so that is a bit restrictive. I convinced the guide to let me run out for this one. Everytime we passed a kill, he said in his proper English accent, "Ahh, another lion restaurant."

Handheld, so that explains the specs. Also, I realize the 50/50 isn't ideal, but I just love the unconventional foreground.

Devastatingly graphic. If you can't "see" the lion in this one, your blind. Paul, is the muddy area surrounding the kill because of the lion activity? Please post your other images of the trip. I am salivating.

Well i decided an 11x14 crop works, even though I hate to throw away sky. Also fixed the crooked horizon. =)

Haha, Grady got one lion shot up in wildlife. I can't thow them all out at once. Its all about supply and demand. =) I got to build up demand.

Paul, either crop works for me. I do like this one above better for seeing the foreground part of the image in better details. LOL. I will go look for the lion. I have got to get together with you for a workshop one day when I come down. We will grab James Shadle and Craig Carreno for some Spoonies, gators and some dynamite glades scenery! Till then I will have to accept the web version.

    Hey Paul,
Welcome back and congrats on the 2nd place showcase in this months Pop Photo! I like both but the re-post really showcases what this is all about without losing the sky's impact. Very nicely done!

    Hi Paul:

I have to say that I prefer the original crop b/c it is understated yet tells the entire story. In the first one you see a split between beauty and horror. In the repost, there is an emphasis on the horror. The story in this one photo is really captivating. Hope to see more from your trip.

I prefer the first image. Rules can be broken if it works, and the 50/50 adds tension and a dimension of life vs. death (rain clouds bring new life).

Impressive image.....I also prefer the first (50/50) image. The contrast with the sky and kill is more dramatic for me.
