Great image Hugh. Sharp, well positioned in the frame, and has the added bonus of the grebe's mouth being open, so there is some action in the image. Looks like it might have been overcast when the image was created? Were it mine, I would try to brighten the overall image a bit, plus increase the contrast slightly. :)
God bless.....Dick
Wow, what a catch!
Agree it could go a little brighter, but contrast seems right to me, since I' not a fan of heavy contrasst.
Congratulations!

This is great! If I absolutely HAD to pick on something, it would be the gunk floating in the water near the bird. Not a lot you could do about that at the time.
Some very nice suggestions so far. I like the idea of trying to brighten the image, as well as cloning out the floaty items to the right and front of the bird. You've got a great image to work with here!
Great active pose. I would clone out te gunk in the water and maybe even do a selective color enhancement to make the water look a bit more blue?
Loads of interest in this image. I agree with comments already made, particularly with regard to the water. It's probably my screen, but I see a slight magenta cast.!!!
Hugh I really like this one particularly because of the open beak. The previous comments have covered most enhencement options but I'd be tempetd to leave it as is except to make it slightly brighter.

Hi Hugh,
Hope you don't mind; I played with it a bit.
I did it on a laptop touch pad so some of the patching could be better with a mouse or tablet.
Here's what I did:
Eliminated color cast:
- Duplicated BG layer (CNTRL/CMD J)
- Selected: Filter > Blur > Average
- Added Levels adjustment layer from the layers pallet (or Layer > New Adjustment layer > Levels)
-Clicked the midpoint slider and clicked on the Averaged layer to shift to neutral.
- Turn off visibility of the averaged layer and decreased opacity of the adjustment layer to taste (actually, I think I left it at 100% in this one)
Then Curves:
Used the clipping preview and adjusted the end points to where clipping just started and then backed off a bit. This lightened the image a lot.
Best,
jim
