Great first post, Chris! I like the light, details, BG and wing position. Do you have images made in this series with the bird flying towards you? Keep them coming!
For a first post this is a pretty impressive and a very impressive bird. If I was to be hyper critical I would say that perhaps the head and beak need a little selective sharpening. Nice start lets see some more finally where was it taken.
Chris:
I agree with Axel on the technicals. Good choice on the aperture, this wing is so long that you needed all your DOF to capture it all in focus. Speaking of focus, my guess is that your focus point was somewhere in the middle of the wing perhaps, because the head and eye are just a bit softer than the wing itself.
Nice colors, good framing.
Congratulations on your first post. We look forward to more!
Randy
PS: Ken and I must have been typing at the same time. Sorry to duplicate the sharpness point.
Nice first post Chris! Great wing detail and nice golden water for a backdrop. Selective sharpening of the head would help. Getting the bird flying towards you is always a plus, but it's still a good photo. Look forward to seeing more of your images.

Hi Chris,
Agree exactly with Randy about the focus point but you could selectively sharpen the eye a little.
Gorgeous bird - keep them coming!
Best,
Nicki
Welcome to BPN Chris. I see you came right with the posting method. I like the light, colours and detail in this, and a great show of the nearer wing. Was this shot in Kruger?
Welcome to BPN and congratulations on a terrific first post! The light, detail, pose, BG, colors and comp are excellent! Congratulations!
Welcome to BPN and an excellent first post for all the reasons mentioned above.

Always nice to see another SA boy ... welcome ! Great in flight of the Goliath. Well done.
Super stuff here Chris, and welcome to BPN. Lovely DOF to render the whole bird sharp, and love the colours and BG!
Great 1st post, Chris. Agree with all of the above. Would also add that I like the overall composition, re: relative spaces around the bird. Nice to see all of your countrymen rallying around to welcome you!
Big welcome to BPN, hope you can feel right at home here.
Excellent flight in sweet light with great exposure.
Wish you had gotten him one second earlier, he's past the prime, and on the way away from you.
Great background!
Great BG and nice aperture choice to keep your DOF out to the wingtip. Very good first post. Welcome to BPN!
Beautiful heron.
Welcome on board!
Light is great, lovely feet and nice compo.
Thanks for the warm welcome words, comments and advice it's much appreciated.
