Over the last few years this species has been expanding its range north-eastwards, and is now quite common where I live. But they're not often out in the open like this, and I felt this recent image was worth keeping despite the branches in front of the bird. I cloned out a few but left what you can see. It does at least illustrate the bird in its habitat at the time.

    D300, Nikon 80-400VR, hand-held, ISO640, 1/2000, f9.0.

    Hi Richard,
I like the composition and capture...the bird is in it's natural habitat, and the busy background is what it is...you managed to get your subject out in the clear...my only suggestion would be to desaturate the reds just a hair and not to over sharpen for the next time...looking forward to your next one...

Hi Richard - Agree with Gus - does look a tad oversharpened and some of the branches look a bit funky in places - all camera's over saturate the reds just have to deal with it in PP.

Hi Richard You did well to place the bird just under that top branch and keep out the merge !! Agree with suggestions .... btw all cameras seem to over saturate reds on their own !!!
