    Default Crested Shrike-tit

Crested Shrike-tit photographed in eucalypt woodland. These birds use their stout beaks to shred loose bark to reveal insects. I turned down my usual sharpening formula quite a bit with this image to cope with the coarse barbules of the feathers of the back.

    Canon 40D, EF500 f/4 + 1.4 tc, tripod, ISO 200, 1/800, f/6.3, a bit cropped from the top and right for composition.

Neat looking bird, the head seems too large for the body:). Good detail on the feathers, BG is a tad distracting, also might give it a little more room all around

I like the angle, alert pose and eye contact. The shadows could go a bit brighter for my taste and I would remove the dark spot in the lower left.

Great and interesting species! It is amazing the variety of birds there are! Love the pose, the ambient and BG, detail and colors, fill flash could've helped IMHO. Still, excellent! Congratulations!

Simon this is a wonderful species, thanks for sharing

I like the head of this guy, looks kind of funny since he has a big head for such a small body.

Nice light, agree about fill flash.

Super pose, and I like the colours and markings on the little guy. I agree about removing the dark spot BLC.

All my main concerns have been addressed. I will add that a better head angle towards us would have been sweet. I love the visible crossed wing feathers, very cool. Awesome species you've shared with us here...a new one for me!
