I use a D300 and I’m having a little trouble with my macro when using the flash. There is a time lag as the flash sends out a few strobe flashes, which delays the shutter. If handholding, the time lag is enough to cause the focus to change, because of the movement. I suppose I could use a tripod, but you know what a pain that is? Any ideas?
Thanks, that did the trick. I’ve been struggling with this for some time now. In the manual, for the flash unit, it states that the unit puts out some pre-flashes before firing the flash. That’s why I never thought it was the cameras setting that was causing the problems. It was set for red-eye reduction(only in the flash mode). I’ve been so disappointed with manuals in general the last few years. It’s as if the manual is an afterthought with the companies. I guess they figure that it’s too expensive to write a complete manual, when so few people read it (most use the web resources now). Thanks again Al!!

Bill I am a Canon user and use a MR-14 Ringlite for my macro work as well as a Manfrotto focusing rail and Tripod and though cumbersome it is perfect for macro work, also I ALWAYS switch to "manual" focus when shooting macro.
As for Manuals, when I paid $800 Aus for the Ringlite I expected a decent manual and what I got looked like a poor quality (VERY POOR) photocopy. I decided that I would go to Canon and buy the correct manual and they did offer to sell me a "Genuine" one for $45, guess what it was the same piece of sh&t manual that came with the flash.
Alfred I tried to find a MR-14 Manual by Magic Lantern, no luck any further ideas?
