The males usually arrive before the females. This time of year they are in resplendent plumge.

Self crituque: I like the over-all image. The BG has lots of color and I don't find it distracting as there is a nice blend and enough "bokeh" to create a soft, colorful setting. The bird is in good resolution, though I might have lightened the shadow some.

I think this is a very nice image. The bird is very sharp and the colors look great.
I don't find anything wrong with the perch.

Very nice subject, striking patterns on it, and I like the alert pose. Cool perch too with lovely textures throughout. I'd be tempted to tone down the brighter sections on it a wee bit though. I also like your BG and agree about the colours providing a good setting, but I would tone down (without losing the colour) the two brighter spots above the head. Highly enjoyable image!!

I also enjoy the BG and I think it contrast nicely with the Grosbeak, well done.

    Mark:

A lovely bird, that I have never seen in person. We have lots of rose breasted grosbeaks, no black headed ones.

I took the liberty of addressing what I perceived as the overly bright background and perch.

Just a quick pass to lower the brightness of those areas. I didn't do it, but might crop a smidge off the right side.

Just an option for you to consider re: the brightness of perch and background.

    Cheers

Brilliant light, and love the overall colours in this. Comp works well, although I cant help feeling to add a bit to the LHS, and top, just a tad. I like the pose of the little guy.
