    love the pose, beautiful detail.
Some of the blur that is obviously in focus plain kind of looks "off" to ME.
Just looks a bit unnatural.......otherwise a wall hanger

One definite bonus here is the downy softness to the feathers. The white are really white, pure and spotless. I do see a green reflection on the underside of the belly and in the tail fan. I love these guys in breeding plumage. The head up, why does it do that? Is it displaying? A very nice overall feel to this one Fabs.

Lovely posture captured here Fabs. I think you have the whites on the boderline, but having said that, great detail from the wing and tail feathers, which are nice and sharp. Great contrast between the egret and the dark BG. Well captured.

A new 80-400 Fabs? In my opinion is not a good lens for flights (due to the slow AF performance) but terrific quality for static subjects and this image is a good example. Love the pose, face colors and those wonderful aigrettes on the back. Fantastic Bg and exposure :-)

    Fabs:

As was Juan, I was struck by your lens choice. A very versatile, light lens to carry around, with good range, but too slow for me on BIF. Maybe I am too slow for it? I have taken thousands of pictures with that lens, but it hasn't gotten a lot of use lately. I did think that using it on the D700 perked it up some, and perhaps you are finding the same on the D3.

Lovely bird. I agree with Dave, for my taste the edge blurring is just a bit too aggressive, but thats obviously a matter of personal taste.

Thanks for sharing. I really hope to get to the farm sometime in the future.

    Cheers

He is in courtship display, he goes up to the sky and back towards the body to go almost flat and makes a clapping sound. Mesmerizing to watch.

The 80-400 was bought was an all around lens for wildlife or statics. I have made a few flights with it today, not as fast as the 300/4, but definitely useful.

    Thanks, guys!

Neat pose Fabs, and I like that you can see the tip of the bill on the dark BG.

Lovely image... love the pose and great exposure. Wish the fg/bg blur on the left wasn't there... but a fantastic image!
