    Default Bullying in mid-air

    D300 300f2.8 hand-held. Manual exposure mode, all natural light. ISO 400 f4 1/1250 s.

    Cropped.

A lucky shot :) The female tree swallow was driving the male off the perch. I started photographing swallows last year. But from what I've seen, the female tree swallows seem to be very aggressive, screaming at the males and not willing to share the perch with them...or some of them I guess.

    C&C welcome and appreciated !

    Thank you very much !!

Great action captured - really like the open bill and blue/green BG. Square crop works well.

Interesting interaction captured. Thanks for sharing.
The OOF front bird bugs me and I would have preferred it to be sharp with the rear bird OOF. (First prize both in focus but you dont show us the App. so I asume the was not sufficent DOF.)

Great action shot. These swallows are always challenging in flight and you had two of them! I like the background a lot. As a preference, I would have liked the front one in focus or have a separation between the two.

Very good action Desmond. I love the timing and the young with the open bill. The BG could be toned down a bit to made the birds pop up. Very good capture

Great interaction, and well timed to get the open beak of the guy at the back. I agree more DOF would have worked, but getting the shot is first prize.

Tough to say what you could've done to make this better, but I think that the D300 could go up in iso (640?) without adding much noise..... which would let you get either better DOF or a faster shutter speed....or both. Still, the interaction grabs your attention and at first glance the shallow DOF and blur are secondary. Nice work!
