Now, this is my kind of assignment. I've got plenty of these...
Oh, intentional... Well, anyhow here's my image.
This is a bird in a very specific behavioral situation.
Taken at Arenal area Costa Rica.
Can you tell the species or at least the family.
Clue: Note the two vertical sticks.
Nikon D80 Nikkor 300mm TC1.4
AP Matrix f/5.6 1/4 ISO800
Ilija, I love camera blurs and I can't seem to get enough of them. This has some nice lines and the blurred foliage on top is great! I think the bird needs to be more defined for my taste-Lets see some more of your blurs!!
Hi Ilija Just gave me an idea with your image and I'm going to try it Monday morning :) Going to do the same kind of blur but make an extra exposure sharp .... then combine and give a little sharpness to the center of interest by painting from a layer !!! Neat !!!
i agree with denise. i think that even in a blur there needs to be some kind of focal point. and i have no clue what kind of bird it is. will be interesting to find out!!
Hi - I am going to go with harold and denise on this one - feel that it needs something sharp to lock onto, or the pattern is not strong enough to hold the viewers interest .
OK this was half a joke... I understand that blurs are done intentionally
this was certainly not done intentionally. I was in a once-in-a-life-time situation
and just had to press the shutter, even though I knew the result would be catastrophic.
It was deep in the forest on the slopes of Arenal volcano in Costa Rica.
Not a good light situation for bird photography.
After I looked at the screen I was cursing myself for my utter and complete lack
of understanding of flash usage... Or actually owning a decent flash for that matter.
Did somebody mention SB-something:(
The bird is not a joke at all, though.
This is a clearing in the forest floor with an array of young trees devoid of their leafs
forming a circle of vertical sticks on a patch of cleared forest floor. The sticks area is
an arena (a LEK) of the White-collared Manakin. The black, white and yellow colored
males dance by jumping from stick to stick in an attempt to impress a female. The champion
mates with the female.
The dance is quite elaborate accompanied by loud clicking noises the Manakin produces
by snapping its wings.
Not much of a photo I know, but a highlight of my birding career...
I thought I would use the amazing coincidence of the assignment to share this image with you...:)
Ilija, Thankyou for sharing that really interesting story-I have missed quite a few once in a lifetime shots also! But having that experience is something that will remain in your memory and you won't forget. This image has a very good memory attached to it-and that is the best kind of image, when you look at it you can smile and remember the day as if it were yesterday.:)
