    Default Beware of IE8!!

I have spent the morning restoring my computer after installing IE8. Fortunately I have Norton Ghost and had done an image just two days ago, and that worked perfectly. It seems to be very buggy and even system restore does not work to get rid of it. It is now listed in automatic updates so if you have the setting ticked to download and install update you might want to change that to maybe download and check with you first before installing. It apparently has losts of problems with certain plug ins, although I have slim to none. Just thought I would give a heads up to all. Another thumbs up to Norton Ghost. It is the only Norton product that I own, but it sure save one bacon and has never failed on me.

Something else I have just read. If you want to block IE8 from being in the express download area of the Windows update just d/l IE8 blocker toolkit.exe from Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I'm glad you got to fix the problem. There was no way to uninstall IE8 through add/remove programs?

IE8 is not currently in Windows Update
if you select custom, you can always select and update and have windows hide the update (except required security updates)
That way you can avoid IE8

IE8 works fine on all the systems I have used. no problems. great browser

It was in the express updates this am, working on XP pro. If you google IE8 problems you will find lots of folks with issues.

Thanks Nancy. I have heard various things, good and bad RE IE8. Your experience has made me wait. I have installed the blocker on all 3 of our computers. When the bugs are fixed I will update.

My best advice is Mozilla Firefox, since I started using it my computer has been bug free.

I have to agree with Chris....Firefox is very similar to IE, but has a couple nice features that IE lacks. Oh, then there's that little fact that the hackers put a lot of effort into screwing with anything Microsoft.:(

    Cheers,

    Default IE8 vs. Firefox

Agree with Christopher Cooke (recent posting): Firefox is the way to go. Less chance of viruses coming through it, almost no crashes (on XP Pro or XP Home) and the satisfaction of helping reduce the strength of MS's near-monopoly (competition being good for all).

Another vote for Firefox here. Not only is it less buggy, but it has much better support for web standards (IE is the bane of web developers). Other good options are Safari for windows or Google Chrome. Both have good ratings but I don't know them as well as Firefox.

I had mucho problems with IE8 and Firefox has been sort of squirrely recently on my computer.
Now using Opera and have had great consistant results with it.
All probably depends what conflicts with what on individual computers.
    Chas.

I've been running IE8 for some months on my Vista system and it's running perfectly.

It apparently however, doesn't play nuce with Outlook as it's won't work correctly on my company laptop or desktop system.

I run Vista and downloaded IE8 a short while ago and have noticed from time to time when my computer goes into sleep mode and I move the mouse to awaken the programs... all the buttons and items on my screen come back all blown up (large sized). I usually just re-boot, but its a nuisance and I'm not sure if its related to the IE8 download for certain or not. Anybody else have this issue?

If I were on a PC I wouldn't use IE8 just because it is not color-managed or did MS introduce this in IE8?

Just pulled this off the web if anybody wants to uninstall the program.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow the instructions for your version of Windows. To follow these steps, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator.

Note If you are not sure which version of Windows that you are running, or if you need help verifying that you are an administrator, click here to determine your environment (http://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin) .

Important You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 8 if it is set as not removable. This occurs if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you can uninstall Internet Explorer 8. For more information about this issue, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
950719 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950719/ ) You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8 after you install Windows XP Service Pack 3
Steps for Windows Vista or for Windows Server 2008

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
    1. Close all programs.
    2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    3. Click Uninstall a Program under the Programs category
    4. In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.
    5. In the list of installed updates, double-click Windows Internet Explorer 8.

Note If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try the alternative steps for Windows Vista or for Windows Server 2008.
    6. In the Uninstall an update dialog box, click Yes.

Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    7. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
    8. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
After you have finished, go to the "Did the "Let me fix it myself" steps fix the problem?" section to verify that your earlier version of Internet Explorer is restored.
