Nice colours and soft look. I like the bright red eye. The diffused appearance of the image works well with the feather textures. Looks more painterly than photographic.

The look back look works so well in this, showing up that lovely red eye against his darker plumage. I like the orange symetrical sides of his body, and what a killer BG. Great image Steve.

I like it overall, but I'm not crazy about the soft edges surrounding the subject and perch...looks like you selected the bird to do some PS work on the BG (gaussian blur?) but with the results "bleeding" onto the those edges.

    Steve:

Nice job capturing this fellow off the ground! Mine never give me a clear shot at them.

I like the overall soft look, but do agree with Daniel about the bleeding of the blur effect onto the bird. I think the concept is good, but maybe redo the blur effect a bit to stay off the edges of the bird a bit more.

Nice balance on your exposure choice.

I like the look of it Steve. As mentioned the soft look may take away from some apparent detail, but it does seem to be part of the photo, at least for me. I also like how there appear to be contours in the bg following the outline of the bird.
Great look back and eye contact. Dave
