Help with 400 2.8 Canon !!!!!

I'm at the Alligator Farm and met a photographer having trouble with a 400 2.8 Seems the rotating collar is stuck and only rotates 1/4 of the way L/R

From looking at it seems the stops are hitting the collar ... could it be the bearings? Any suggestions?

Al,

Loosen the 4 screws securing the lens collar, and see if it falls back into place. Worse case you can fully remove the screws and ball bearing w/ spring from the collar.

I will see you tomorrow at the AF and help further if need be.

... btw for the time being I was able to turn the head upside down and its working !!! Really looks weird but getting the job done !!!! :)
