Super comp with his wings spread across the image. Lovely detail throughout the heron, and his nesting material a bonus. I would try and darken the BG a tad. Well captured Denise.

    Denise:

Lovely wing spread, good exposure. Nice post proc work.

My only critque would be that the eye/head isn't as sharp as the wings/body. I would guess your focus point was behind the head. Perhaps another round of selective USM on head/eye would help. I also agree with Stuart about the background. Just a bit darker with perhaps a little more blur.

Good to see you on the avian board. I know OOTB keeps you busy!

Randy, It's critter week in OOTB -One of your butterfly images with a poster effect would look cool!! Just in-case you have some extra time!!:)

I like the colour and detail captured. Would have liked to see a bit more of the perch/nest below the bird. I think that the lighter coloured branch behind the bird could be blended in a bit more to be a bit less distracting?

The Bg is a bit busy to my taste but the action is fantastic. Very good composition and I only wish for more eye contact. Good job :-)

Really nice action Denise, I agree with Randy that the face of the bird doesn't seem quite as sharp as the rest of it.

I like the nest-building behavior and the raised crest feathers. You did a good job adding canvas. The head does look a little soft, and I agree that the BG could be a little darker.

I like the landing pose, stick and setting. I would prefer an even wider crop and more sharpening of the bird.
