To me, this is an odd photo, but i like it because you actually have to look at it a little to find the animal. it certainly took me quite a bit of work to get this photo (this bird occurs in some of the least pleasant habitat you can imagine- this photo is from a Gibber plain in mid west Western Australia, so its hot, dry and those twigs are the only thing that cast shade). the bird never came out of cover (i use the term cover loosely... these dead shrubs are as good as it gets on a gibber plain) and was pretty hard to keep track of. i cloned out a bit of twig near the birds flank, and did a minor crop to put the bird in the corner, but thats about it.

I think it is interesting to see this sort of inhuman habitat. I guess it is something like our Southern Whiteface? Is that the same your way? While small in frame, I still enjoy looking as it is not often we see such a big image with a small character in it. The light is nice and warm too. Thanks for posting. :)
I like this kind of compositions with the main (?) subject very small in the frame and lots of room and habitat all around. I love the dry feeling of the environment, very well composed :-)
thanks for the feedback-
Akos, its a banded whiteface- this pic is taken at the western limit of its range- you get them throughout the deserts all the way from the Strzlecki to the Murchison in WA.
Axel, i already sharpened the bird a little but started getting wierd colours coming through. any suggestions on how to avoid this? i lowered the opacity on the sharpen tool, but still it was doing wierd things.
Thanks Juan!
Very interesting image and my favorite kind of environmental feel! Agree that the bird can be sharper. Also think it'll be nicer if the bird is facing more towards you such that we can see more of its side rather than rear. :)
