    Default Take off

I have enjoyed capturing these Pied Kingfishers as they take off. It takes patience, and split timing, as they are very quick. Normally they give a slight tell tale that they are going to go, sometimes not, and you get a tail at the edge of your frame. I use one of the outside focussing points, so as to leave them space to fly into. What I also like is in each take off, I capture a different posture. The BG is OOF mountain.

    Like the shot.

Not a problem, but I would crop a little of the left side. You left plenty of room, but possibly too much as you could increase the image size and make the bird more dominant. I would take about 1/4-1/3 of the open space, just to get more bird.

Excellent job Stuart. Exposure and sharpness are perfect. Appreciate the info about the tell. Agree with Mark about a tighter crop.

You just keep Uping the Antie Stu, A really Great Timed Shot as They are Quick. I do agree a Tighter crop would Bring out more of the Subject But it is also a Nice BG!!!

Thanks a lot guys. Here is a tighter crop, having taken off from the left and bottom.

I prefer the revised crop Stu. Moment well captured, pin sharp and well exposed.

Super killer wing position. I prefer the ORIG COMP to the re-post and might take a bit off of the bottom (though I see where you were goind with the original image design.

I was thinking I liked the space in the original but the repost is still a good display. These guys are little bullets and cropping tighter didn't take away the space in the end. Really well caught mate. I love that spread wing and its concentration. Good timing! :)

Superb timing and action but what I like the most is the fantastic composition that you made in both the original and in the repost. Very, very well done Stuart
