Taken in this morning's dim light. As he walked quickly over the mud-flat the avocet looked up at me momentarily from his constant back-and-forth sweeping motion in this shallow water. The image is cropped 50%, NR used and sharpened a bit in Lightroom.

I really like the color spectrum in this image. The bg colors complement the colors of the bird. I think the composition works well. Also you seem to be close to the bird's level which is a real plus.
The bird seems a bit soft. Maybe try sharpening a bit more. Also I'd be curious to boost the Clarity using LR.
    Cheers

Hi Gail . . . I tried sharpening more, and it helped. I also boosted the Clarity, and that helped a lot. Thanks for your suggestions.

Glad that helped. My reading about LR2 seems to suggest that Clarity acts to increase the mid-tone contrast without affecting the overall contrast and will appear to sharpen an image. Most experts seem to say that most images can do with a Clarity boost, as well as sharpening itself.

Good one Wendell. I like the HA and pose. The water compliments the colors on the bird nicely. I'm sure Gail's suggestions will help this one stand out. Might want to go for a little more NR on the background too.

Hi Wendell - all good advice given above - definitely needs some additional sharpening, personally I find the bright water in the foreground a little distracting. Like the low shooting angle :)

Hi Wendell Agree with suggestions and have one of my own .... if possible going to ground level will give a totally different looking image with no distracting bg !!! Neat !!!
