The usual PP, just put through Topaz with an underpainting effect. Taken in Northern British Columbia, Canada, in '03.

I like the look here of the bears gaze. He is looking down and back, as if something caught his interests. Hopefully it was not you Jackie! The fur doesn't look fake, a good thing, and the beach dirt looks somewhat natural. Not too much of a good thing, just right. The left eye though could use some extra light, just a thought.
Beach dirt is natural Grady because it was taken in a preserve. I was about 20 feet away from him standing on the beach. Not quite sure what you mean???
I'm amazed you can get that close to the bears .... .those claws are impressive !!!
Love the tones and mood !!! Just beautiful !!
Jackie, Real nice use of the effect-not overdone! Looks good on the bear and I like his pose and claws!!
I really like this one, Jackie. The head down pose, visible claws, the soft tones of the BG sky, and the great beach environment. Was this in the great bear rainforest?
Just beautiful!
I meant I liked it. :)
John this was near Prince Rupert B.C. You have to take a float plane to a place called the Khutzeymateen Valley. It is a grizzly bear sanctuary. Have you heard of it???
Great image of a grizzly. Nice application of the effect Jackie, it's really easy to over-do it with Topaz. You might consider removing some of the foreground bits to make it stronger.
Going to Yellowstone in four weeks, hope to see some of those critters!
Took in all the suggestions, lightened the eyes, took out some seeweed and shells. Thanks for the comments and help everyone.

Nice beach cleanup, looks better to me! Looking forward to getting back to YSNP and definitely Grand Tetons. Just an amazing place all around.
Yes, Jackie. I know of the Khutzeymateen Valley (haven't been there-YET) and the area south from Prince Rupert to Bella Bella as some of the finest places to observe wild coastal grizzlies. You must have had a wonderful trip! I am rather enamored with wild bears. Love your image!
All I can say Jackie is...this reminds me of a Bateman print....color, the bears look, very nice..Paul
Thanks for your nice comment Paul, John you must go some time. Two operators work there and it is a simply stunning place! You get to go on land and follow the bears, the tour guide is always in the front:D.

Hi Jackie,
Beautiful bear! Great trip! I'm heading to the Khutzeymateen next week for a few days on the Oceanlight II. I hope to get that close!
You will don't worry. Hope the weather is good for you. Say hi to Tom, Jenn, and Sarah for me!
Thanks! I'm sure thinking that there are many wonderful images of mine there, that I just haven't made yet. Time to start monitoring the weather.....
Let me know how it goes. Send me a PM when you get back. I would recommend a wide angle, either 70-200, or 100-400. Won't need much more than that. There is some macro stuff, lupine, rice flowers (think that is what they are called), but not too much. Beautiful country, food is excellent, you will love it.
