    Default Montezuma Oropendola

I'm still reliving my Costa Rica trip from last year as I prepare for this year's adventure. This is my favorite shot of one of my favorite birds from the trip. I love the Oropendola mostly for the incredible sounds it makes, but also because of its candy-corn beak. For anyone who's interested, here's a link to a website with an Oropendola recording. http://web2.uwindsor.ca/courses/biol...xico/MOOR.html

Great bird and very nice image. Love the colors and the perfect head angle. It needs to be lightened quite a bit; try SH/H and levels.

Thanks for the link. Their sounds are very cool. I listened to it a couple of times. :) The image is great, too. Very nice exposure control. If you have, maybe a tiny bit more room at the right.

What a beautiful species Doug and sharp as a tack!! Composition is pretty tight but I personally don't mind it here. Image looks a tad dark on my monitor.

I agree about the above nits. But what is sometimes lost in the mix is having to photograph birds or animals that one is not familiar with and their habits. All and all you did good, it just needs some tweaking.

    Cool bird btw.

I can remember being in costa and just staring at one in shock at the noises it produced. This is a very fine image. They are pretty dark from my recolection so I dont think you are far off on the exposure.

They are dark, and this one was wet. I played around with the image, but I like the exposure the way it is. I didn't have any room at the bottom left for a different crop.
