Nice gentle colors, even gentler bird...

Have you tried to do something with the eye Dan?
I think the flash fired and produced the eye situation, right?
Artie has the Eye Doctor tutorial in his
    Digital Basics file.

I did try many shots with the built in flash
(Nikon D80) on my recent trip in CR and figured out
the obvious. I need to get me one of those fancy
speedlights and the even fancier better-beamer. No going back
    for me:)

    Cheers,

Hi Dan - gorgeous looking bird - lovely colorings The BG compliments the colours of the bird nicely. Agree it does look a tad soft - was it handheld?
Eye does look a bit funny - easy fix if you are so inclined and you could also remove the lower branch which I think would make a big improvement as well.
Looking forward to seeing more cool costa rica birds :)

Dan this is one of those instances that sharp beats noise !!!! No reason to keep the ISO at 800 if you are only getting a 1/100 sec Noise can be dealt with later and you camera is a good performer !!!
