I'm not sure about this one's ID. If anyone can help with that I would appreciate it. It looks a lot like an American Bittern or even a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, but the eye color and bill look like a Green Heron. I also captured an adult male GH at this same spot. BTW, searching for bird pictures on the interweb really makes me appreciate the images that are posted here by all!

Hi, I'm sorry to say that for some reason the colors of the image look unusual on my monitor. I opened it up with CS4 and it shows that some channels are clipped on the dark end. I'm not sure what caused it. It could very well be the magic light that you've mentioned. Anyway, the bird looks sharp and clear. I do wish I could see the entire tail though.
My guess would be yellow-crowned night-heron juvi, and a fairly
young one at that. Seems to have a greenish cast though. Lighting may be the bigest problem, seems to be somewhat backlit. regards~Bill
Hi Kerry - I like the pose the head angle and the eye contact and the high key - it does look like it has a greenish cast on my screen as well should be a easy PS fix. Agree with Desmond not seeing the entire tail is a shame.
Its a juvi Black Crown Night Heron !! Neat birds !!! I like the pose and bg Does have slight cast which should be easy to remove ... but be careful with the sweet light !!!
I tried to have CS4 set the white balance on this image and it didn't work out so well. I have the blacks set at 7-7-7, mid-tones at 133-133-133, and whites at 245-245-245. Guess there weren't enough neutrals in this image to make a good WB.
