From a distance Mourning Doves look drab but up close I find them one of the most beautiful birds in our area.

Mourning Doves can be wonderful birds to photograph.....whether it be drab days or sunny ones. I like the pose....with the dove looking over the shoulder and there is some nice detail and good exposure. I think that you need a little more room on the right.....for the virtual tail and a touch of sharpening.

Thanks for your comments. Arthur pointed out that my post processing was flawed. I was sharpening the TIFF (from RAW) image and saving that, then downsizing for the web. He suggested I sharpen at the end of any process like this so here is the result.

Sharpening should pretty much be your last step. This looks so much better.....and it actually has brought out the subtle highlight in the eye.
