    Default Paper

Just wondering what your favourite photographic paper is.(preferably archival) Can be matte, lustre, gloss, semi-gloss. Anything.
And how important is it to use matching printer and paper?? (brand name) Or are the ICC profiles from other brands good to use with any printer.

I do all of my prints (primarily bird images) on an Epson 7880 using Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 paper.
For notes cards, I use Red River Aurora Fine Art on an Epson R2400.
When I need a less expensive paper for things like calendars, etc., I use Red River Polar Matte.

I don't think there's any advantage to matching print and paper manufacturer.
Most paper manufacturers provide profiles for most of the commonly used printers
but the quality of these "canned" profles can vary widely regardless of whether the provider
also builds the printers. Once you settle on a paper, I would recommend having a custom profile
built for your printer and paper.

Some possible sources for custom profiles :

    Eric Chan : http://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan.../profiles.html
    Cathy's Profiles: www.cathysprofiles.com
    InkJetArt's custom profiling service: http://www.inkjetart.com/custom_profiles/
    DigitalDog (Andrew Rodney): http://www.digitaldog.net/services.html

Just the kind of info I was looking for. I have an Epson 2400, and have you seen the Crane Fine Art Cards? They make a lovely note card (archival paper as well). I will have to check out the Red River Cards as well. Did you get a custom profile done and who did you use???
    Thanks Mike

Have not tried the Crane card paper ... can you provide a link to the exact product that you
    are referring to?

Unless the manufacturer offers free custom profiles (e.g. Breathing Color canvas), I get my
    custom profiles from Eric Chan.
