Went to photograph the Bluebirds this AM but it seems that the Tree Swallows have won the nest box battle. Didn't see any Bluebirds but didn't stay very long as the tics are now out in force. Knocked 7 off my pant legs in about a 20 minute stay. Use extreme caution if you plan to go th the conservancy. Managed a few nice frames of the swallows before I headed home for a hot shower.

Well exposed Joe, especially on the head, showing the lovely colour. Great pose, and I like the grass in the beak too. Comp wise, I would maybe take a bit from the bottom.

As mentioned above well exposed and good lighting. I too would be tempted to crop a tad from the bottom. The grass is a lovely bonus in this image. Thanks for sharing Joe.

Nice capture Joe. Exposure is very good, capturing nice details of the breast and irridescent blue on the head. The oof stick in the foreground is a pity though...

    Joe:

Lovely bird, nice technicals, but I have to agree with Graham about the OOF stick. It is too overpowering. I know you didn't have time to move probably, but if you could have gotten off to the side at all, you could have cloned it out.

Glad the tics didn't get you!

Shame about that large OOF branch...it pretty much spoils an otherwise good image. The nesting material in the bill is a nice bonus. I went to our local bluebird nestbox area this weekend too and there too the swallows seem to have won the battle.

Love the behavior and the pose. Exposure looks perfect. Have to agree about the OOF stick, which really detracts from an otherwise excellent image IMO.

Thanks to all for your kind comments. I too wish the oof branch wasn't there but I was not able to move as I was sitting under quick-camo so I took what I was given. Maybe I'll try to do something with it at a latter date(on a rainy day).

The stick hurts it for me Joe. Wish the ticks were not so bad at that location.
