Had my first attempt at BIF shots from the pitching deck of a boat last weekend. I forgotten how hard it was and my last efforts were with manual focus lenses about 15 years ago! I was expecting the auto-focus to work a little better than it did. It had real trouble with birds against the water but was fairly good with birds against the sky.

Beautiful bird, I like the details, wing position and BG and only wish the bird would fly towards you.

Very well exposed. I like the bg too. It gives a feeling of stormy sky as a perfect backdrop for a bird known for its flying exploits over open waters.

    Hi Rob!

I really like the expression on the face, and the background goes nice with subject. Agree with Axel regarding the direction. Congratulations on your BIF on a ship.

Awesome image. The eye contact and the eye itself is terrific. Good to see other birds here than US and US ones ;)

Flight direction preference as per Axel's post. Otherwise it looks fabulous against that overcast sky! Congrats Rob! :)

Rob- I had to look-up the bird's name "impavida" and the eye didn't look like any black-browed I'd ever seen. Now it makes sense as this is the "Campbell Albatross" or Campbell subspecies of the black-browed. Very nice to see this one!

Great eye contact. I like the image. I'll be down in South America in 6 months shooting the version that occurs there!
