    Gavin:

Lovely bird in prime breeding colors. Good angle, very effective pose, nice water drops off the bill, accurate exposure. sharp.

    Thanks for sharing this beauty.

Hi Gavin, Nice colors and low angle.
I was at Estero last Friday and the place was dead. Hope you had better look today.
Looking forward to meeting you out there one of this days.

Great colors! As mentioned the pose, exposure and details all look good. I am reaching here but for my taste there is a little too much out of focus water at the bottom (all a matter of personal preferences). I do like it as presented. Congratulations on a fine image.

Hey Gavin: Long time no see. Like the colors, composition, action and behavior on this one. I would remove the highlight from the end of the beak b/c it doesn't look like water. The raised foot and water really make this one. Hope to see you out in the field this summer!

PS I got a chuckle when I saw you were using a tripod!

ALmost perfect HA and I wonder if it needs a minimal CW rotation. I love the colors, the tense concentration and water droplets. :)

    Marina:

Thanks. I had some better water drops in the next frame but liked the leg action in this one.

And as for the tripod, well I went and broke it today :(

    cheers

I actually deleted the image at it's original location. I think it is back up and working.

    Akos:

Thanks for the feedback. looking at it again I can see the CW rotation argument. I think it comes from the wave but I will try it as it may make the image look better balanced.

    cheers

I was also thinking that the water surface may make it appear off level. I only think a minimal rotation would be good, but I don't feel it is absolutely critical. Thanks for sharing again. :)

Nothing to add to all of the good observations above of this great image, other than to reinforce what I believe Phil said, re: taking some foreground water out. One of the strong points of the image is the low/eye level aspect, which I think may be even more emphasized by cropping out a bit of the foreground water. This may also require taking a bit off the top (no, I'm not a barber) to balance the comp.

Intense concentration on this guy!! I agree the image could use a minimal amout of CW rotation (even if it is just an illusion). Colours and sharpness look great and I love the low angle. I will go opposite from the rest comp-wise and suggest a crop from above. Very personal choice of course, but the options are there :-)

    Thanks for all the comments.

Yes it does feel better with a little CW rotation. As for cropping the bottom I like it lower in the frame but the crop might be too tight now.

    cheers
    Gavin
