    Default Northern Shoveler

Another 1st for me... maybe because I'm getting out more this spring than I ever have. :D I didn't get to close, so a pretty deep crop... kinda noisy in LR... still doesn't look too bad. C & C always welcomed.

Nice image, yes it is bit noisy, did you try noise filter at all?
I would try to recover the whites a bit in Camera Raw too.
On my screen the back white patch looks bit flat.
Generally flat whites can be tolerated IMHO if they are lines
or small dots. The patch on this bird is a bit too large for that.
I like the water color and the overall BG pattern.

In any case very nice bird, one of favorite ducks:)

Congrats on your first Bob, always great to add a new species to your gallery. Angle works well, and you have exposed those difficult greens on the head nicely.

Great find and the eye contact adds to it. I would tone down the whites more and remove the specular highlight on the bill and reflection and would crop a bit off the top. I guess you really wished to have a longer lens in this situation.

Nice photo Bob. I like the composition. I generally have my 50D set at 400ISO and run a pass of Topaz Denoise over the whole image. I don't find I lose any details in the subject. Might be an idea for you. Good luck on the next one. Dave

    Bob:

you have captured the standard pose for a northern shoveler, swimming away! They seem to be rather photo adverse, at least here in Michigan.

The technicals have already been addressed. I would agree with Axel to take a bit off the top.

    Keep working them!

    Randy
