One of the peonys in our garden is in flower, for the first time. One single flower, but big enough to try some pictures with the 70-200.
Canon 40D, EF70-200 f4
Handheld, 1/250 sec, f20, ISO 800, cropped, actual size about 80% from original
Afternoon clear sky, the flower was in the shadow of a tree.
Hi Ovidiu,
I like the base image...the image looks a bit flat, lacking color and details...the over all composition on the flower does not have a specific anchor point...the center of the flower needs to be more on the left side of the frame, following the natural path and direction of the petals to the right hand side of the frame...the foreground out of focus petals have the pitch angle raised too high and is a little distracting...perhaps if at the time of capture you would have moved the camera just a tad to the top, it would have been fine...I recommend a tighter crop on this beautiful lady to bring out her natural beauty...I took the liberty in making a few adjustments to the base composition and image to illustrate these points mentioned...I cropped all the way around the four corners of your frame, and moved the center of the flower to the left corner...I adjusted the saturation and contrast levels giving you and extra punch in the color rendition...I selective sharpened portions of the petal edges to create depth of field and contrast...see if this presents best to you...
Hi Ovidiu,
I like what Gus has done with the repost. It really brings out the flower well. Sometimes it is hard to figure out the best route to optimize one's images. Maybe one day it will all sink in :)
Resident expert sure gave a good suggestion !!! I like the slightly different crop with the center of flower more to the lower left corner !!! ... if you need to go closer remember to put on some extension tubes !!!
