    Default Lilac at Sunset

This image was created in early April. I was standing downhill of the prevailing sunset, hence the deep yellow backlighting.

    Canon 40D, EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro
    f5.6 @ 1/640th, ISO 400
Manual mode, pattern metering, Sunny WB
    Handheld, no flash
Processed in ACR & CS4; There was a bit of a haze over the image due to the backlighting so I used an exposure adjustment (offset slider moved a bit to the left) to bring back some of the clarity without minimizing the evening colors in the light.

I can almost smell the lilac! Nice Comp..and I like the side lighting. It adds some depth.

Julie, I love the OOF stem as much as the in focus stem. Well done.

    Lovely comp Julie. Fine exposure
Love the OOF flower complimenting the main in-focus subject. Lovely bokeh.

    Hey Jules,
Do love the interplay of the sharp and soft and the backlighting is working very well here. I do wonder about oof stem removal of the BG one below the FG lilac.

What they said! I mean, I also like the repeating pattern, and agree with Roman that the stem to the lower right of the FG could be cloned out effectively here. Can't wait for our lilacs to get to that stage. Soon!

Love this composition! The repetition of form works really well. Beautiful BG. I keep wanting the top of the flower to be a bit lighter. Beautiful colors.
